Act Now: Pause permits and construction of data centers!

The birds are vanishing. Near Microsoft and Amazon AI data centers, the living world is falling silent.

Where birdsong once filled the air, a constant mechanical roar never stops. Thousands of servers pulse inside these massive facilities, flooding the surroundings with light and noise.

Birds struggle to breed and move elsewhere. The balance of the ecosystem begins to crack — reaching even larger animals like mule deer and cougars.

This assault on nature is powering the AI boom. And Big Tech wants to build thousands more.

But something remarkable is happening: communities are starting to fight back. In the U.S., 14 towns have already paused data center construction to investigate the damage these facilities cause to local ecosystems. And in Amsterdam, a moratorium forced the city to introduce strict limits on where these energy-hungry facilities can be built.

These local fights are working. Now we need to turn them into a global movement, creating a public mandate too powerful to ignore.

If we put massive pressure on the key places where moratoriums are being proposed and get them passed, we can inspire other communities to take action and kickstart a domino effect worldwide.

Sign the Declaration: Reject AI data centers without proper safeguards.

It’s not just wildlife feeling the pressure. One massive AI data center can use as much electricity as a small city. As energy demand skyrockets, ordinary people are forced to subsidize the rising cost of powering these facilities.

Moratoriums are one of the most powerful tools to fight back. They create the time and space to understand the real environmental costs, and to put protections in place before the damage is locked in.

Right now, nearly half of the world’s data center infrastructure is located in the United States. If key states pass moratoriums, it could slow the AI data center boom at its source—and push governments around the world to adopt stronger protections for water, energy, and wildlife.

This isn’t about crushing innovation. AI is here to stay. But we can slow the rush to build AI data centers to ensure this technology benefits people and planet, not just the wealthiest 1%.

More than ever, lawmakers need to hear from people everywhere demanding a pause before the damage spreads further.

That’s why AI experts, technologists, parents, workers and faith leaders have united behind the Pro-Human AI Declaration — a global call to take the future of AI out of billionaires’ hands and put humanity first. If enough of us join in, we can give lawmakers the public backing to make sure technology serves people and the planet — not billionaire’s interests.

Sign the declaration now to demand the government rejects AI data centers.

How governments respond to the AI race will have long-term consequences – let’s make sure they hear from us.
