Since the beginning of October, groups of Israeli settlers have attacked two Americans in Palestine’s West Bank. First, they assaulted Heidi Levine, a 63-year-old American photographer for The Washington Post. Then they severely beat Mohammed Sakat, a U.S. citizen from Chicago, and burned an American-owned home in the West Bank. These attacks follow the deaths of three other American citizens who were killed by Israeli settlers in the West Bank since 2025. The violence against Americans in the region is unacceptable and a glimpse into what many Palestinians there experience all too often. The U.S. government must take action to end the violence and protect American citizens and Palestinians – tell Congress to demand accountability for the attacks in the West Bank. The attacks come as violent groups of settlers attempt to take away Palestinians' livelihoods by destroying olive harvests, harming livestock, burning their houses, and assaulting farmers and workers. According to the United Nations, more than 6,200 Palestinians have been displaced from 119 West Bank communities between January 2023 and June 2026 because of settler attacks and land restrictions. Despite the harm caused by some of the settlers, the Israeli government is doing little to hold them accountable. In fact, the Israeli human-rights organization Yesh Din found that 94% of the police investigations into settler violence against Palestinians it monitored ended without indictment. Israeli police arrested 10 suspects following the recent attacks. However, arrests are not convictions, and it remains unclear whether those responsible for the violence will ultimately face criminal penalties. Congress must condemn the attacks on U.S. citizens and Palestinians in the West Bank and demand accountability for those involved. Sign the petition and tell Congress enough is enough. The petition to Congress reads: "Request a thorough investigation into the recent attacks against American citizens in the occupied West Bank, including Heidi Levine and Mohammed Sakat. Establish a legal framework for targeted sanctions against Israeli officials found responsible, on the basis of credible evidence, for violence and violations of international law against Americans and Palestinians in the West Bank."
