Denounce Republicans’ Dangerous Anti-Muslim Rhetoric

Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville just claimed that Islam is “not a religion” and promoted the idea of mass expulsions of Muslim people from the United States.

Tuberville’s remarks are not an isolated outburst. They are part of a broader pattern inside the Republican Party. Representative Randy Fine has publicly embraced Islamophobic rhetoric and called for collective destruction rather than coexistence. In New York, Republican Councilmember Vickie Paladino has faced widespread condemnation after calling for Muslims to be expelled following violence abroad. This rhetoric is disgusting. It is un-American. And it is deeply dangerous.

Republican leadership cannot hide behind silence. When party leaders refuse to condemn this rhetoric, they are choosing political convenience over constitutional values. Silence signals approval. Silence allows hate to spread. Silence puts lives at risk. That’s why we are demanding action now.

Tell House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Republican Leader John Thune to publicly and unequivocally denounce Islamophobic hate speech from members of their party. Demand they affirm that Islam is a legitimate religion, that Muslim Americans belong here, and that calls for expulsion, collective punishment, or religious exclusion are unacceptable.

When multiple elected officials deny the legitimacy of an entire religion, it sends a dangerous signal. It tells Muslim Americans that their citizenship is conditional. It tells extremists that dehumanization has political cover. And it tells the country that bigotry is once again being normalized from the highest levels of power.

Words like these don’t stay on social media. They fuel harassment, threats against mosques, fear in classrooms, and violence in real life. Muslim Americans already face rising hate crimes and discrimination. When elected officials pile on, the risks multiply.

Muslim Americans are not outsiders. They are teachers, nurses, veterans, small-business owners, parents, and neighbors. They vote. They serve. They contribute. Targeting them because of their faith violates the core promise of this country: freedom of religion and equal protection under the law.

Democracy depends on leaders who draw clear lines against hate. This is that moment.

Add your name now and demand Republican elected officials denounce this dangerous, Islamophobic rhetoric and commit to protecting the civil rights, safety, and dignity of Muslim Americans.
