Denounce Sen. Rand Paul's Homophobia

Sen. Rand Paul just launched a despicable homophobic attack against Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, a top federal health official at the CDC who played a key role in the Biden administration's response to monkeypox and COVID-19. In an interview with The Hill, Paul claimed that Daskalakis's "gay lifestyle" made him unfit to serve in public health leadership.

Let’s be clear: this was not a policy critique. It was a hateful smear rooted in homophobia, meant to degrade a public servant because of how he looks and who he is. Coming from any public official, this would be unacceptable. From a sitting U.S. Senator, it’s a disgrace.

Add your name to our petition denouncing Sen. Rand Paul's disgusting and homophobic attack on Dr. Demetre Daskalakis.

Sadly, this is not out of character for Sen. Paul. He has a long and disturbing history of aligning himself with hate. Paul has attended events hosted by neo-Confederate groups and hired staff with white nationalist ties. His father, Ron Paul, has never fully accounted for the racist newsletters published under his name in the 1990s—and in fact, a 1995 video shows him seemingly taking credit for them.

This pattern of bigotry—homophobic, racist, and extremist—should have no place in the United States Senate. Rand Paul’s behavior makes him unfit to serve.

We cannot normalize hate in our highest offices. We cannot allow elected officials to use their platforms to demean LGBTQ+ Americans or cozy up to white supremacist ideologies.

Sign our petition to forcefully denounce Rand Paul’s homophobia and hold him accountable for promoting hate in the halls of power.
