Five belugas transferred from Marineland have died at U.S. aquariums. CWI is calling on SeaWorld, Shedd Aquarium, and Georgia Aquarium to make permanent no-breeding commitments for the survivors. We will deliver petition signatures to all three institutions.

Stop Beluga Breeding! Five Have Already Died.

Five belugas have died since being transferred from Marineland. Don't let another generation be born into captivity.

In the summer of 2026, 28 belugas were transferred from the now-closed Marineland, a Canadian marine mammal theme park, to three U.S. aquarium operators: 16 to SeaWorld, ten to Shedd Aquarium, and two to Georgia Aquarium.

Five of those whales have already died.

Four belugas transferred to Shedd Aquarium—Peekachu, Rain, Osiris, and Caspian—died following their arrival. Some had serious, longstanding medical conditions, and their deaths have raised troubling questions about the health of the transferred whales.

On October 18, Cyprus, a young male beluga transferred to SeaWorld San Diego, also died after developing a serious intestinal condition. His cause of death remains under investigation.

Five deaths in just a few months. The surviving whales deserve protection, not another generation condemned to captivity.

Yet none of the three receiving organizations has made a public, permanent commitment never to breed the belugas transferred from Marineland.

We call on SeaWorld, Shedd Aquarium, and Georgia Aquarium to:

1. Make a public, lifetime no-breeding commitment covering every beluga transferred from Marineland in 2026, including natural mating, artificial insemination, and other assisted reproduction.
2. Prohibit the use of reproductive material collected from these whales, including sperm, eggs, and embryos, to produce offspring.
3. Ensure the commitment follows the whales if they are transferred to another facility, requiring any future recipient to uphold the same permanent restrictions.
4. Establish veterinarian-led breeding-prevention plans that protect each whale's physical and social well-being, with public reporting on how these commitments are maintained.

These animals have already spent their lives in captivity. They deserve care that prioritizes their individual needs, not the continuation of captive beluga populations.

Please sign and demand a permanent end to breeding Marineland's transferred belugas.
