Stop the Republican Plot to Abolish the Education Department

Republicans in Congress are trying to kill the U.S. Department of Education, and we have to stop them.

Backed by the White House, a new clawback plan slashes vital education funding and opens the door to abolishing the department entirely. It's a direct assault on students' rights, federal protections, and access to public education.

The Department of Education ensures civil rights enforcement, funds Pell Grants and student loans, and protects students with disabilities. But now, the far-right is working to shut it down and rip support away from millions of students overnight. We can’t let that happen.

Tell Congress: “Make sure every American has access to the high-quality education they deserve. Defend the Department of Education against far-right attacks and increase investments into the next generation of students.”

Extreme proposals to eliminate the Department of Education are already moving in Congress. Think tanks like the Cato Institute, funded by right-wing billionaires, are cheering it on. GOP leaders are calling it a top priority. If we don’t fight back now, they’ll gut the agency before the next school year even begins. 

Killing the department would devastate low-income students, students of color, and students with disabilities. It would let states roll back civil rights in schools with zero accountability.

Budget negotiations are continuing now, and these cuts could get slipped into law fast if we stay silent. Let’s flood Congress with public pressure before it’s too late.
