A new proposal from the Office of Management and Budget would give Trump’s political appointees the power to deny federal grants based on political ideology. That means billions of dollars for disaster relief, Head Start, medical research, public education, environmental protection, and local economic development could be at risk if their programs include diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. We cannot let Trump and Russell Vought use political litmus tests to control federal funding. Tell Congress: hold immediate hearings and stop this power grab. More than 300 organizations have already warned that the proposal could impact government grant-making nationwide. Not only would the proposal impact the critical funding support our communities rely on, Trump and Vought would also set a dangerous precedent. A president should never be allowed to use disaster aid, healthcare funding, or money for education as leverage for political obedience. Congress has the power to act. Lawmakers can hold hearings, demand documents, restrict implementation, and defend their constitutional authority over federal spending. Add your name to demand Congress stop Trump and Vought from using federal grants to impose their political ideology on communities. The petition to Congress reads: "Stop Trump and Russell Vought from using political ideology to cut critical grant funding to our communities. Hold immediate hearings, restrict implementation of any rule that lets political appointees impose ideological tests on public funding."
