Tell Congress: Ban partisan gerrymandering

The Supreme Court has gutted another major piece of the Voting Rights Act – opening the door for politicians to gerrymander people of color into silence.

In a 6-3 ruling, the Court all but ended that landmark civil rights law’s guarantee that communities of color have the right to fair congressional districts where they can elect a candidate of their choice.

In just the past two decades, the Voting Rights Act has gone from near-unanimous bipartisan support to the number one target for politicians who don’t want to defend their policy decisions to voters – and Supreme Court justices willing to do their dirty work.

Moments like this are exactly why Common Cause exists. We’re demanding that Congress end their silence and pass new voting rights legislation immediately.

Our polling shows that Americans know our redistricting system is broken and are demanding bold reform. 2 in 3 voters – including a majority of Republicans and Independents – support a nationwide ban on gerrymandering and mid-decade redistricting.

This is a crisis for our democracy, but also an opportunity.

We need to make it clear to the White House and Republicans in Congress that an overwhelming majority of Americans – including their own voters – are demanding fair maps now. Add your name to the petition today.
