Today, threats to nature are accelerating as never before. Species are disappearing at alarming rates, essential ecosystems are collapsing, and natural disasters are intensifying.

Yet nature sustains us—our health, happiness, and survival depend on a thriving planet. When we protect nature, we protect ourselves. Right now, we need Congress to act to ensure we can continue to have the everyday things that are sourced from nature that we depend on.

As your constituent, I urge you to support legislation that invests in and protects our natural environment. Nature benefits every aspect of our lives, from our economy and health to our security and communities.

Economic Prosperity

Our natural resources form the foundation of economic stability and growth. From outdoor recreation and tourism to agriculture and wood products, healthy ecosystems ensure that key industries can operate reliably. Furthermore, the illegal trade in natural resources such as timber and fish creates unfair competition for US companies and workers by depressing prices for these products on global markets.  Investing in conservation is investing in long-term economic resilience.

Public Health 

Nature is fundamental to our health and survival. It provides clean drinking water and filters the air we breathe. The natural world is the source of countless medicines that save lives daily. Preventing illegal wildlife trade and protecting wildlife habitats from destruction also helps prevent diseases from spilling over into humans. Beyond physical health, access to green spaces improves mental wellbeing and leads to better health outcomes across communities.

Safety and Security

When we protect nature, we protect ourselves. Healthy forests reduce wildfire risks; wetlands absorb floodwaters during severe weather events; coastal vegetation prevents erosion; and diverse ecosystems help buffer against drought. Around the world, shortages of fresh water, food, and other natural resources contribute to instability and conflict. And we are less safe when criminal networks profit from poaching wildlife and stealing natural resources – and use these stolen profits to finance corruption and violence.

Investing in nature and preventing illegal trade in natural resources is essential to protecting America's interests, especially in a time of increasing global competition.  

Community Strength

Nature-based investments strengthen local economies by creating new industries and jobs. Protected natural areas and parks provide spaces for outdoor recreation and public access to some of the most iconic American landscapes. For Indigenous communities, preserving natural landscapes sustains cultural practices and ways of life that have endured for generations. When we protect nature, we protect the health and stability of our communities.

Conservation is something we can all agree on. Please support programs and policies that protect nature and invest in conservation efforts around the world. Our environment, economy, health, security, and communities depend on the choices we make today.
