EPA’s latest attempt to derail clean air protections has taken shape - and it’s horrific. Administrator Zeldin is proposing to exempt so-called “advanced recycling” plastics incinerators from Clean Air Act pollution-control requirements. If this proposal is finalized, these combustors will be allowed to release unlimited amounts of dangerous toxic chemicals, like dioxins, lead, mercury, and other potent carcinogens. Moms are demanding that Zeldin and EPA keep vital pollution protections in place to protect our communities. Allowing plastics incinerators to operate without pollution controls would endanger the health of all people. Because plastics are made from extremely toxic chemicals, burning them creates pollution that can increase the risk of cancers, birth defects, reproductive system damage, developmental issues, cardiovascular problems, respiratory impairment, and neurological problems. EPA’s proposal is unconscionable. Demand that EPA protect our communities from toxic “advanced recycling” plastics incinerator pollution.
