Tell RFK Jr.: Keep Toxic Chemicals Out of Kids' Food

The FDA is planning a new rule that could allow food corporations to add some of the world’s most toxic chemicals to their products without a full safety review.

Scientists have warned that under the proposal, perchlorate (a chemical found in rocket fuel), PFAS, some flame retardants, and other toxic chemicals could potentially be added to our food as long as they are at extremely low levels.

Even at low levels, some of these chemicals can interfere with hormones, affect children's development, and contribute to reproductive and other health problems. Children are especially vulnerable to certain chemical exposures because their bodies and brains are still developing.

The FDA is asking for public comment on their proposal until December 9th. Tell the agency to protect children's health and ensure potentially harmful food additives undergo rigorous safety reviews.

The proposed changes would also raise serious transparency concerns. Although the FDA would share a list of chemicals allowed under the rule, that list would not tell shoppers which brands or foods contain them.

Families deserve to know what is in the food they buy. They should also be able to trust that the food they serve their kids is safe.

Sign the petition today to submit a public comment urging the FDA not to loosen restrictions on food additives and to protect our food from toxic chemicals.

The petition to the FDA reads: "Do not expand the Threshold of Regulation exemption in ways that weaken food safety protections. Require thorough evaluation of potential developmental, reproductive, and hormone-disrupting effects before allowing chemicals to be added to food. Strengthen transparency so consumers can understand which substances are used in food products, and put children's health and safety first."
