New York Governor Kathy Hochul and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just showed what real pro-family leadership looks like.

Families are struggling with soaring costs. So Hochul and Mamdani worked together to expand access to affordable, universal child care — treating it as a public good that working families deserve.

We need other cities and states to do the same. So we’re showing our thanks publicly to show leaders that if they step up to expand childcare, we’ll have their backs too.

For years, parents have faced impossible choices: paying more than rent for care, leaving the workforce, or relying on unstable arrangements. Child care workers are underpaid, and women — especially women of color — bear the greatest burden.

Fortunately for New Yorkers, this expansion will help parents stay in their jobs, support the child care workforce, and give kids safe, nurturing places to learn and grow. It sends a clear message that families matter more than austerity politics.

But we need leaders in other states to step up, and that starts by showing them how popular child care expansion really is.
