28 countries are seeing a rise in the number of people acquiring HIV 31 million people received lifesaving antiretroviral therapy in 2023, while 9.3 million people living with HIV went without treatment. 630,000 people died of AIDS-related causes in 2023, including 76,000 children. Everyday, thousands of people contract HIV—many of them young women, who often have little access to education or prevention resources. The tragedy? These infections are preventable.
